AEW (All Elite Wrestling) was established in January 2019 by Tony Khan, the son of Shahid Khan, who is the owner of the Jacksonville Jaguars. The promotion was created to fill the void left by the closure of popular wrestling promotion WCW (World Championship Wrestling) in 2001.
AEW’s inaugural event, Double or Nothing, was held on May 25, 2019, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The event was headlined by a match between Chris Jericho and Kenny Omega to crown the inaugural AEW World Champion, which Jericho won.
